BLACKSBURG, Va., April 29, 2010 - The Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) at Virginia Tech has established several search committees to assist in the recruitment of a Director for its Core Computational Facility (CCF) and Research Computing Infrastructure and several faculty positions to add to its team of world-class researchers.
Director, Core Computational Facility (CCF) and Research Computing Infrastructure
This position will provide strategic and managerial oversight of the institute's Research Computing Infrastructure and CCF. The Director will lead a team of system and database administrators and desktop support specialists, who provide operational support for VBI's administrative and research computing infrastructure. This includes VBI's CCF, a High Performance Computing (HPC) facility operated as a cost-recovery service center serving VBI, the Virginia Tech community, and other external researchers and entities. The Director will initiate and lead funded research directly related to the support of the CCF and Research Computing Infrastructure, as well as marketing efforts to attract and serve researchers in the High Performance Computing community.

Research Assistant Professor or Research Associate Professor (two positions)
To support the growth of its transdisciplinary research, VBI is seeking two charismatic research faculty members who will primarily interface between VBI and the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute (VTCRI). The faculty members will serve as principal investigators (PI) or work collaboratively as co-principal investigators (Co-PI) in an effort to secure extramural funding in support of research initiatives by contributing significantly to project design, execution, and interpretation, and will be responsible for the project management of awarded grants and contracts.

Assistant/Associate Professor in HCI and Visualization
To support the growth of its transdisciplinary research portfolio, VBI's CyberInfrastructure Division is looking for an Assistant or Associate Professor to lead Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Visualization efforts. This position will be responsible for developing and conducting a vigorous, extramurally funded research program related to HCI and Visualization for life sciences; the securing of grant and contract funding for the program; integrating HCI/Visualization practices throughout appropriate CyberInfrastructure program areas (infectious disease, and translational informatics); and defining, designing, and evaluating innovative user interface solutions.

Assistant/Associate Professor of Biostatistics
VBI's CyberInfrastructure Division is also seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor of Biostatistics as a component of its growth into translational informatics programs.
The position will have a major responsibility with respect to program development for clinical and translational sciences, through CyberInfrastructure Division's collaborative relations with major medical schools; in addition to his/her own original research, he/she will be responsible for taking a leading role in support of research design, epidemiology and biostatistics efforts in all CyberInfrastructure Division programs.
