BLACKSBURG, Feb. 4, 2002 - Dr. Bruno Sobral, Director of Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) at Virginia Tech, will testify before the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Science, Technology, and Space/Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 9:30 am in Room 253 of the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C.
The hearing, "Fighting Bioterrorism: Using America's Scientists and Entrepreneurs to Find Solutions" is the second in a series of hearings designed to develop solutions for the war on terrorism.
Dr. Sobral will discuss how VBI can help mitigate bioterrorism through the development of a science portal that will gather pathogen information currently spread across over 40 government agencies into a single virtual database. He will also emphasize the importance of collaboration between universities, government, and industry, highlighting VBI's partnerships as examples.
