BLACKSBURG, Va., Jan. 12, 2004 – VBI’s Core Laboratory Facility (CLF) opens for business
as usual on January 9, 2004, in its new on-campus location. The CLF
will be housed in Bioinformatics Facility I, located at the corner of
Duck Pond Drive and Washington Street on the Virginia Tech campus. The
CLF is located on the second floor on the new facility. The CLF will
offer its services as usual including DNA, fragment, gene expression,
and proteomics analyses. Operating hours for the CLF will remain 8 am
to 5 pm Monday through Friday. Samples for DNA analysis can be dropped
off at the receptionist desk on the second floor during these hours.
Chilled container and sample submission forms will be available at the
main receptionist desk on the second floor. The DNA analysis sample
drop-off site at Derring Hall will no longer be in operation.
RNA and protein samples will be accepted directly by staff members in the CLF to ensure proper storage. The Qiagen cabinet, offering supplies to researchers, can be accessed by directly visiting the CLF. The receptionist on the second floor will gladly allow visitors access to the secure laboratory wing.
"By moving to an on-campus location while enhancing infrastructure, VBI’s Core Laboratory Facility will be more in tune with the needs of the Virginia Tech research community," said VBI Systems Biology and CLF Director Susan Martino-Catt. "We look forward to continuing to provide excellent service while fostering greater connectivity with our users. The upgrade in infrastructure will also enable us to expand our services based on client needs, allowing Virginia Tech researchers to keep in step with accelerating technology platforms necessary for cutting-edge biological research.”
The CLF staff welcomes questions and concerns to its unchanged phone numbers:
