BLACKSBURG, Va., August 5, 2013 – A Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering team led by Kevin Shinpaugh, VBI’s director of information technology and computational resources, too first place in the 2013 Revolutionary Aerospace Systems Concepts-Academic Linkage (RASC-AL) competition.
Shinpaugh’s team captured the three first place spots including the Human-Focused Mars Mission Systems and Technologies category; the undergraduate level competition; and the overall competition award. The team’s theme this year was Project Rhea: A Manned Reusable Spacecraft for the Scientific Observation of Mars, to be powered by a fusion rocket.
