This summer, our inaugural cohort of Metagenomics Program students learned a variety of research fundamentals: experimental design, sample preparation, genomic sequencing, and bioinformatics analysis. Their coursework culminated in a hands-on research project, led by Biocomplexity Institute faculty. As the summer session comes to a close, we are inviting the Virginia Tech community to learn more about all the exciting progress being made in the emerging field of metagenomics.

The symposium includes keynote presentations by Dr. David Bevan entitled, “Protein Structure and Dynamics in the Era of Metagenomics” and Dr. Qijun entitled, “Reading DNA: DNA Information and RNA Structure.” These will be followed by a series of lightning talks, student poster presentations, and light refreshments.
