Title:          Understanding infectious disease ecology for public health modeling
Speaker:     Gloria Kang
In this talk, I present an overview of methods used in disease ecology and the current state of modeling tools for epidemiologic study. With a focus on zoonotic pathogens, I provide a brief history of epidemic modeling as an interdisciplinary field and its contribution to our current understanding of disease dynamics. Lastly, I argue perspectives from ecology and biology (rather than applied mathematics) and discuss practical challenges, theoretical controversy, and some pretty cool opportunities for public health research.
