Dr. Kojima is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, and Faculty of Health Sciences. She received her Ph.D. in 1998 from University of Tokyo (Japan) and spent several years as a Post-doctoral Fellow at University of Virginia (VA) and UT Southwestern Medical Center (TX), prior to joining Biocomplexity Institute at Virginia Tech in 2015.
She has been interested in understanding how rhythmic biological processes (i.e. circadian rhythms, cell cycle) are sustained with the correct period, phase, and amplitude. Her research group employs unique approaches intergrating molecular/cellular biology, genomics and neuroscience to decipher genetic codes embedded in our DNA to regulate these processes.
